    Remarks:
When the Ruthven Museums Building was designed by Albert Kahn in 1928, the facade included the two limestone bases that flank the entrance, but it was not until 1940 that the puma sculptures were created. The sculptures were created under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration. For additional information see: Michigan Alumnus 46: pg. 543-544; and J. P. Slusser's "The University and Federal Art Project," pg. 143-144. IAS files contain: an unpublished excerpt from Einar Kvaran's "Annotated Inventory of Outdoor Sculpture in Washtenaw County," 1989; an excerpt from Ellen A. Plummer and Frederick W. Mayer's brochure "The University of Michigan Ann Arbor Campus Outdoor Sculpture," University of Michigan, c. 1993 (which reports sculpture media as bronze).
