    Remarks:
Dr. Willoughby Miller (1854-1907) was elected Dean of the School of Dentistry, but died before assuming the post. This sculpture was created through the Works Progress Administration, Federal Art Project in Michigan, which Cashwan oversaw. The sculpture was a gift of the faculty and alumni of the School of Dentistry. IAS files contain an excerpt from Ellen A. Plummer and Frederick W. Mayer's "The University of Michigan Ann Arbor Campus Outdoor Sculpture," Ann Arbor: University of Michigan, c. 1993, pg. 21 (which lists the media as marble); and an unpublished excerpt from Einar Kvaran's "Annotated Inventory of Outdoor Sculpture in Washtenaw County," 1989.
