Remarks:
The monument, which honors departed firemen, was erected with moral and financial support of Arthur Scranton, related to the founding Scranton family of Scranton,
Pennsylvania
. Frank A. Scheirer, a local stone mason, was hired to build the monument for $2,200. The monument is installed on
cemetery
land that was purchased by Arthur Scranton, and which serves as the final resting place for firemen who have no family, or who have financial hardships. At the dedication ceremony Arthur Scranton extended the use of the burial site to any member of the
Pennsylvania
fire company, whether they are paid or volunteers.
