Portrait of a young woman with her body turned just slightly to the right, her gaze directed toward the viewer, and a book held in her left hand with her thumb marking her place in the book. She wears a black dress adorned with white lace trim along the neckline and cuffs, a small gold pin, and a gold beaded necklace. Her dark hair is parted in the middle and falls over her ears with long ringlets at the back.
