    Description: 
    Walking figure of St. Dominic de Gurzon. He wears a flowing cassock and has a tonsured pate and beard. He carries a book in his proper left hand and walks barefoot uneffected through thorns.

    Remarks: 
    This is the second cast of this piece; the first was made for the Dominican Church Madonna dell'Arco in Naples, Italy. Walking unharmed though thorns is an episode the the life of St. Dominic. This sculpture is a memorial to ten students who died in a campus fire. Thomas McGlynn was a faculty member in 1937-1938 and 1946. IAS files include references to the book "Thomas McGlynn Priest and Sculptor," (Providence, RI: Providence College Press, 1981) and the McGlynn Archives & Sculpture Collection at the College.
