Inscription:  (On front plaque on base:) IN MEMORY OF THOSE/WHOM GOD CALLED TO/HIMSELF AND OF THOSE/WHOM GOD CALLED TO/SHOW HIMSELF TO/OTHERS BY THE LOVE/THEY SHOWED/FOR ONE ANOTHER/DECEMBER 13, 1977 (Plaques on left and right contain the names and classes of ten women who died in a dormitory fire on Dec. 13, 1977.) signed Founder's mark appears. Description:  Walking figure of St. Dominic de Gurzon. He wears a flowing cassock and has a tonsured pate and beard. He carries a book in his proper left hand and walks barefoot uneffected through thorns. Walking unharmed though thorns is an episode the the life of St. Dominic. This sculpture is a memorial to ten students who died in a campus fire. Thomas McGlynn was a faculty member in 1937-1938 and 1946. IAS files include references to the book "Thomas McGlynn Priest and Sculptor," (Providence, RI: Providence College Press, 1981) and the McGlynn Archives & Sculpture Collection at the College.
