    Description: 
    A large fountain made up of irregularly-shaped geometric areas, with a central sculpture composed of geometric shapes, arches, a cylinder with a cylindrical void in the center, a crucible-shaped column in rear, and a quarter-circle in front. The basin consists of four wells, with two divided areas with steps. The wells and steps are painted black. There are ten underwater lights embedded in the walls within the painted areas. One side of the fountain is protected by concrete walls and a metal fence.

    Remarks: 
    The fountain was created by Horace Farlowe in conjunction with the design of the new Student Center Plaza at a cost of $305,319. The architect for the Student Center Plaza was Dan Sears from the design firm of Bell Design Group, headed by Dick Bell. Student input was coordinated into the design, with the recommendation that no bricks be used. The student Center Plaza is also referred to as University Plaza, or the brickyard. IAS files contain newspaper articles from the Technician (North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC), Sept. 30, 1974; Oct. 8, 1976; May 18, 1976, pg. 1; Feb. 25, 1976; and Sept. 22, 1976.
