    Seated female figure resting her proper left hand on the edge of a shield. The coat of arms of the state of New York is etched on the front of the shield. A sword rests against her proper left arm next to the sword. Her proper right arm is draped over the back of her chair and in her hand she holds a scroll.

    Remarks: 
    Justice and Philip Martiny's companion sculpture, Authority, were originally positioned on either side of the entrance to the New York City Hall of Records --later known as Surrogate's Court. In 1959, when the city widened the street in front of the building, Justice and Authority were moved to the New York County Courthouse entrance niches.
