Remarks:
The statue was donated by Donald Danforth, in honor of his father, William H. Danforth, the founder of the Ralston-Purina Company. The checkerboard pattern near the bottom of the base is a reference to Ralston-Purina's checkerboard trademark. The figure is modeled after a St. Louis area high school student, and the inscriptions are quotations of advice to young Americans by William Danford. The statue is a copy of the original, which is on display at the Ralston-Purina plant in St. Louis, Missouri. The American Farm Boy is a companion piece to the American Farm Girl (MD000081).
