    Description: 
    An eagle, emblem of Liberty, with outspread wings is mounted atop a tall, rectangular, three-tiered base, with insignias on the front of the Women's Relief Corps and the Grand Army of the Republic. The memorial sits atop a foundation.

    Remarks: 
    Commemorates Civil War veterans and the Women's Relief Corps, and was a gift to the Grand Army of the Republic from Theodore P. Burkert, a Civil War veteran and member of the G.A.R. Pollock Post. The memorial replaces another G.A.R. marker that used to sit on the same location. When the memorial was dedicated, Marion Cemetery was called Highland Cemetery. IAS files contain a transcription of a related article from the Marion Record, Feb. 28, 1929.
