    Description: 
    Two hares on individual bases represent the dancer Nijinsky and his mirror image. Each hare is poised on one leg in a frenzy of action, as one passes a ball to the other. Each hare is mounted on an eight-sided, tapered base with a conical cap. The bottom of each base is an eight-sided plate embedded in the ground. The pieces are 26 inches apart.

    The sculpture is one of an edition of seven. A wooden sign in front of the sculpture reads: "BARRY FLANAGAN/MIRROR NIJINSKY 1992/BRONZE/ORGANIZED BY NORTON GALLERY ART IN COLLABORATION WITH CITY OF W.P.B., PALM BEACH COUNTY TOURIST DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL, ART IN PUBLIC PLACES OF CITY OF W.P.B., DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP AND WEST PALM BEACH CENTENNIAL COMMISSION." The sculpture was loaned to the Norton Museum of Art and the City of West Palm Beach by Arij Gasiunasen Fine Art, Inc. of Palm Beach. IAS files contain an excerpt from the exhibition catalog, "Barry Flanagan: Recent Sculpture," The Pace Gallery, New York, 29 April-30 June 1994; and a copy of the Norton Museum of Art newsletter, Images (Nov. 1995).
