    Description:
Full-length granite figure of a Civil War colorbearer. He wears a uniform and holds a flag against his proper left side. The figure surmounts a tall granite shaft. Placed around the base of the shaft are several full-length granite figures. An allegorical figure of History depicted as a female and young male student are seated on the front side of the shaft. She wears a long gown and holds an open book on her lap. The young boy sits on her proper left and wears a shirt, jacket and knee-length britches. His gaze is directed up at History's face. On the proper left side of the shaft stands a full-length figure of an infantryman. He wears a uniform including cap and long overcoat. He holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands; the butt of the gun rests on the ground near his feet. Standing at the back of the shaft is the figure of an artilleryman. He holds a ramrod vertically with his proper right hand. He wears a uniform including buttoned and belted jacket, trousers and a cap. His proper left foot rests on an object. On the proper right side of the shaft is the figure of a cavalryman. He wears an officer's uniform with epaulets and draws a sword from the scabbard hanging on his proper left hip.
