(Poetic text:) While the tree's winter branch / defies the arc of the stars / Because we all carry one smooth / and one sharp stone in our bodies. / As the wind give ideas / to ravens and leaves. / Inside the grasses that shake / with the animals they hide. / When clouds make shapes / of things we cannot know. / Within the shadow / of a heron. / Is where the songs of blackbirds / and sparrows rise to their rest. / As the ants' work is tunneled / and dark inside each day. / Because rain on the lake is one way / to hear the sky's intentions. / Where cicada husks fill / with voices of light.

A basalt stone encircled with bands of poetic text. The polished band represents the horizon and the imagination.
