IAS files contain related articles and materials, including articles from the Hays Daily News (Kansas), July 7, 1976, and the State College Leader, Oct. 14, 1976, pg. 12-14. Articles discuss artist's conception of work and state that the city fathers commissioned the work to provide the town with a memorial to the town's centennial and the nation's Bicentennial. Revenue sharing funds paid the cost for the sculpture.
