    Description: 
    A relief portrait, bust-length, of Major Joseph W. Anderson. He wears a uniform, but no hat. He has a full beard and moustache. The relief is on a granite stele, which rests on low rectangular granite base.

    Remarks: 
    Erected by the federal government. Monument located on land that was formerly property of Vicksburg National Military Park. The monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures (LCS no. 03360). IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form. Joseph W. Anderson was killed at Champion's Hill, May 16, 1863.
