    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a Union soldier. He wears a uniform including cap and overcoat. Attached to his belt are a small pouch on the proper right front, a large pouch on the back and a bayonet on the proper left side. His proper left arm leans on the muzzle of a rifle. He holds the barrel of the rifle with his proper right hand. The bronze sculpture stands atop a large base of granite blocks with a multi-stepped top.

    Remarks: 
    The granite base for the monument was donated by Charles E. Tilton. Funds for the sculpture were raised through public subscription by the local G.A.R. Post. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Franklin Transcript, June 7, 1889 and Laconia Democrat, June 7, 1889; and additional citations for other articles. IAS files contain copy of related Lakes Region Planning Commission Historic Resource Inventory form; and excerpt from David Ruell's unpublished manuscript "The Public Sculpture of New Hampshire", Concord: New Hampshire Historical Society, 1980, pg. 17-18.
