Description:
An abstract playground sculpture resembling a serpent. The sculpture is painted bright colors including blue, yellow, red, aqua, magenta, orange, and purple. Sections of the sculpture are painted different colors. The sculpture is in the form of a long, snaking tube which curves in on itself to form a circular play area. It is raised off the base by four cylindrical blue legs. Welded to the top of the tube at one point is a bright yellow ring and at another point is a bright red sphere. The base is a low circular area of a spongy synthetic material surrounded by a narrow concrete rim. The sculpture is designed for children to play on and is installed in a grassy open area.

Inscription on small metal plaque on 14 1/4 in. x 10 1/4 in. concrete marker near rim of base reads: "Serpent Mound"/Steven Kline/Painted steel, 1990/Steven Kline has created a work of art that is both functional and visually exciting./The artist has welded lengths of industrial steel pipe into a "serpent" with boldly striped/colors. This playground sculpture is made for touching, climbing, and sitting.
