    Bronze relief plaque with double portrait of Cornelius Scranton Bushnell and John Ericsson and the ship Monitor, on front of a tiered granite pedestal, topped by a bronze eagle with outstretched wings alighting on a sphere supported by four fish.

    Remarks: 
    A reduced replica of this sculpture is in Brookgreen Gardens (South Carolina). The sculpture honors a prominent New Haven resident, Cornelius Scranton Bushnell, who played a part in the construction of the Monitor, a Civil War steel-clad ship. The memorial was funded through public subscription at a cost of more than $5,000.
