(On plaque on front of base:) THIS STATUE WAS GIVEN TO SUPERVISOR KENNETH HAHN/BY SCULPTOR ROBERT MERRELL GAGE AND WAS PLACED/AT THIS LOCATION BY ORDER OF/THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ON SEPTEMBER 13, 1988./THE UNVEILING WAS HELD ON APRIL 24, 1989. (On plaque on front of base:) 16TH PRESIDENT/OF THE UNITED STATES (Plaque on front of base has text of Emancipation Proclamation.) (On plaque on proper right side of base:) ABRAHAM LINCOLN/1809-1865 (Plaque on proper right side of base has the text of the Gettysburg Address.) signed Founder's mark appears. Description:  Bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln. He is clean-shaven and wears a bow tie. The bust sits on a tiered concrete base which is painted black. Subject:  Portrait male -- Lincoln, Abraham -- Bust Occupation -- Law -- Lawyer Occupation -- Political -- President Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- California -- Los Angeles Sculpture Owner:  Administered by County of Los Angeles, Internal Services, Department of Public Works, 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, California 90012 Located NE corner of 1st & Grand, Los Angeles, California Provenance:  Formerly located Los Angeles County Courthouse, East lobby, Los Angeles, California 1961-1988. Remarks:  The sculpture was given to the county by the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Cost of the sculpture was $5,000. The sculpture was originally installed in the east lobby of the county courthouse. It was moved in 1988 to its present outdoor location, replacing a sculpture of Senator Stephen White which had previously been located there.
