    Remarks:
The War Monument was a fundraising project of the numerous local veterans' organizations, led by a committee chaired by former town First Selectman Griffin E. Harris and with active assistance from U.S. Senator Prescott Bush. The committee raised $25,000. The memorial was originally erected to honor the men and women of Greenwich who made the supreme sacrifice in World War II. Two granite columns on either side of the monument with the names of the men who died in Korea and Vietnam were added later. IAS files contain a copy of an excerpt from "Monuments and Memorials" folder in Greenwich Library.
