Description:
A Civil War Union soldier in uniform stands at parade rest. Both hands grasp the barrel of his rifle and the butt rests on the ground in front of his proper right foot. He wears a hat and moustache and carries on his belt a canteen and ammunition pack. He stands atop a plinth with reliefs of patriotic symbols. The plinth is atop a multitiered, 4-sided base with inscriptions. The front of the base has reliefs of 2 crossed rifles and a drum. The back features a relief of an anchor entwined by a rope. One side has reliefs of two crossed cannon and the other side shows two crossed swords and a bugle. The four corners of the upper section of the base each have a relief of a column and each corner of a lower tier has a relief of a pile of cannonballs.

Commissioned by the Lambert Boeman Post #48 of the Grand Army of the Republic on April 15, 1891. A committee was appointed to solicit subscriptions and arrange for the erection of the monument. They received $900 from the Women's Relief Corps., and more than enough total funds were raised from within

to pay the total cost of $3,500. Sculpture is dedicated to the memory of the soldiers who went to the Civil War from
