    Description: 
    Full-length sculpture in the round depicts a contemporary American Indian woman and her daughter. Both figures wear long-sleeved belted tunics, skirts and boots. The woman wears a native-style necklace and carries a shawl over her proper left arm. She holds the little girl's proper left hand in her proper right hand. They stand back to back and the girl leans forward. Both smile as though engaged in conversation. The piece stands on a low, round base.

    Remarks: 
    "Sidewalk Society" is a series of nine figurative sculptures acquired by the Avon Town Council and the Avon Arts Council for their Art in Public Places Program. "Native American and Child" is cast no. 6/15. Sculpture was waxed in the autumn of 1994. IAS files include a related article from Albuquerque Monthly, Jan. 1991, which discusses the "Sidewalk Society" installation in New Mexico (NM000040).
