A label on the back of the frame reads: "William Birch, ENAMEL PAINTER, paints PORTRAITS, and MINIATURE, and fills up PROFILES, No. 73, South Third-street, Philadelphia. He has just completed in an elegant Volume his Second Edition of the Views of Philadelphia, which may be had separate or together. He has adopted a cheap and elegant mode of Framing them, at Six Dollars the pair only, complete. He has also for Sale, a Selection of Paintings, by the First and most approved Masters, selected with the best judgment." Written in ink on the side of the label is the date "1807."
