The race horse, Secretariat, depicted in his prime at the age of nine or ten years old. He stands with head turned slightly to the proper left. The sculpture is mounted on a short rectangular base that sits in the center of a circular plaza.

Secretariat, the 1973 Triple Crown Winner, was born in 1970. and died in 1989. The sculpture was commissioned by Secretariat's owner, Penny (Tweedy) Chenery, in 1988. IAS files contain excerpts from The Blood-Horse (July 6, 1991); Equus (Nov. 1991): pg. 66; and Equine Images (Winter 1991): pg. 36.
