    Description: 
    A full-length portrait of Oliver Morton. He is seen standing, dressed in nineteenth century attire, in a long coat with wide collar and fitted at waist. His proper right hand is extended in gesture; his proper left hand holds a rolled up paper at his side.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture commemorates Oliver Morton, Indiana governor during the Civil War and one of the major supporters of building a Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. The Morton sculpture was erected June 15, 1884 and stood in the center of Monument Circle (then known as Circle Park). Around 1899, the Morton sculpture was relocated to its current site as part of the new Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument.
