    Enormous bust of George Washington dressed in a jacket with a tall collar and a shirt with a ruffled neck. His head is turned slightly to the proper right and he stares straight ahead. His hair is brushed back from his face.

    Remarks: 
    IAS files contain material from George Washington University files pertaining to the gift of the sculpture to the University. A 1978 letter from Dr. David N. F. Fairbanks, son of the sculptor, notes that the bust was in his own collection until it was given to George Washington University. IAS files contain an article from The Hatchet, the George Washington Student paper, June 9, 1980, and The Monday Report, a George Washington University community newsletter, Dec. 17, 1979. The Monday Report includes a photograph of the sculptor at work on a plaster model of the sculpture. IAS files also contain a photocopy of the dedication program.
