Description:
Bronze sculpture depicting a male figure mounted on a horse. The figure wears a hat and holds binoculars in his proper right hand. The horse is in a walking attitude, with all four hooves on the ground. The sculpture is mounted on a limestone base decorated with a carved leaf motif encircling the top. The sculpture is situated on a grassy mound of earth in a triangular traffic island. There are two sets of three stone steps located at the east and west approaches to the sculpture. A concrete ("granitoid") sidewalk encircles the raised mound on which the sculpture is located.

Monumental News (April 1905) includes a description of what seems to be an earlier conception of this sculpture: "a bronze equestrian group surmounts a granite pedestal bearing bas-reliefs. In front of the pedestal will stand a bronze statue of a color bearer."
