    Remarks:
The monument marks the graves of members of the White family, including noted Boston philanthropist George R. White (1847-1922). Mr. White was the owner of the Potter Drug and Chemical Corporation, and made financial gifts to the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Museum of Fine Arts. He was also a trustee at Forest Hill Cemetery from 1897 to 1922, and at the Museum of Fine Arts from 1911 until his death. The artist was not entirely satisfied with the finished sculpture and continued to experiment with the head of the angel, modeling another plaster bust in 1898 after the sculpture was cast and in place. The artist later wrote to George White to explore the possibility of replacing the head, but changed his mind. The original plantings around the monument included two Japanese yews, given by Charles S. Sargent to George White.
IAS files contain documents from the cemetery archives including a photocopied image of a second bust completed by the artist after the sculpture was cast, and two pertaining to John Evans & Company, a "stone work order" dated May 9, 1922 and an "inscription order" for Harriet Bradbury's name on the base, date April 3, 1931.
