    Description: 
    A standing portrait of German composer Richard Wagner holding papers and a pair of gloves in his proper left hand. He has a beard and is dressed in a long jacket with an overcoat and hat. The sculpture rests on a tall base adorned with carved flowers at each upper corner.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was a gift to the City of Cleveland by the Goethe and Schiller Society. The cost was $8,000. The Cleveland Lakefront State Park was formerly known as Edgewater Park. In 1978, the sculpture and the park were acquired by the State of Ohio, Department of Natural Resources. IAS files contain related information from a Cleveland Orchestra brochure, "Companion Guide to Wagner's 'Ring of the Nibelung'" edited by Peter Laki and Eric Sellen, 1992; and articles from Cleveland Town Topics, Dec. 17, 1910 and Oct. 14, 1911.
