A Confederate soldier standing in a position of readiness. The soldier wears a soft, wide-brimmed hat, and has a full beard and moustache. He wears a waist-length jacket with a turned-up collar. He has a bedroll draped over his proper left shoulder; a hip pack hanging on his back. He wears a wide belt with a square pouch and a large buckle with the letters "CS" on it. He holds a flintlock rifle diagonally in front of his chest; his proper left hand on the middle of the rifle and his proper right hand at the trigger area with one finger on the trigger.
The soldier wears loose-fitting pants tucked into calf-high boots. He stands atop a rectangular obelisk of rough textured granite. An oval plaque on the base includes a relief of a horse and rider, and is inscribed with text.
