Two standing bronze figures approximately 150 feet apart enacting an 1880s peaceful meeting between a mountaineer and an American Indian. First figure, the Mountain Man, stands with his rifle prominently displayed in a gesture of peace, the butt of the gun on the ground, the tip of its barrel held by the proper left hand; gun stands well away from the body. Figure wears hide shirt and leggings, fur hat, shell necklace, and a powder horn and satchel slung over the proper right shoulder. At his feet and to the proper right are gifts of several beaver skins stretched on round frames of aspen. Second figure, the Indian, proffers in both hands a ceremonial buffalo horn filled with Rocky Mountain "sweetwater." He wears a buffalo hide robe fastened around his neck, a loincloth, and bracelets, and wears his hair tied in two braids which fall behind the head.
