    Description:
A figure of a World War I soldier, standing, facing north, head turned to the proper left. The soldier wears a period uniform including a full-brimmed hat with chin strap, a coat which falls below the waist and has a stand-up collar and pockets, a belt with pouches, and baggy pants wrapped from knee to ankle. The soldier's arms are held at his sides, bent at the elbows with the hands holding the barrel of a rifle in front of his waist. The gun is held vertically with its butt resting on the plinth in front of his feet. His proper left hand grips the barrel near the top end, while the proper right hand, more relaxed, holds the barrel a few inches lower.
His proper right leg is fully extended and supported from the back by a depiction of a tree stump. The top of the base has classical architectural detailing with doric triglyphs on the edges. Between the triglyphs are reliefs of crossed canons on the north; an anchor on the east; swords on the south, and crossed rifles on the west. Plaques are on all four sides of the base.
