    Description: 
    Full-length portraits in bronze of the artist's mother and grandson. Both are seated on a bench. The female figure is to the proper left of the child. She wears a cardigan sweater, blouse, skirt and pumps. Her legs are crossed at the ankles. On her lap she holds a stack of three books with her proper left hand. The young boy sits in front of her to the proper right, his legs straight out in front of him on the bench. He wears a baseball cap, shirt, trousers and shoes. He holds an open book in both hands propped on his legs. A drawing of a young girl, the artist's granddaughter, appears on the book the boy holds.

    Cost of the sculpture was $36,000; including a $2,000 grant from the Patrons of South Sound Cultural Activities, $1,000 from TCI Cablevision, $15,000 from the City of Lacey and donations from the public. "The sculpture's image was chosen to thank the elderly and the children who played a big part in helping to raise more than $500,000 for construction of the library." IAS files contain copies of related materials including an article from The Olympian, Oct. 27, 1993; the Dedication ceremony program; and "Lacey Life, City of Lacey Newsletter", Nov. 1993, pg. 2.
