    Description: 
    The first piece consists of tilted building planes projecting from the sidewalk; a bench set into the building plane; and a rough wall surface. The second piece consists of a post and lintel arch.

    Remarks: 
    The sculptures are made from pieces of granite that were installed to cover the city's streets around 1910. The granite was quarried in British Columbia. The sculptures cost $60,000. Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $20,000 given in 1985 to the City of Bellingham. Additional funding was provided by local corporations, the Washington State Arts Commission, and the City of Bellingham. People walk and sit on the sculptures. IAS files contain a photocopy of a mock-up of the sculptures.
