The sculpture was presented to the City of Lynchburg by the Glamorgan Foundry's president, Henry E. McWane. The pitcher was originally installed along the circular rim of the 1870s College Hill Reservoir, spilling water into the reservoir pool. The sculpture remained there until the 1960s when the reservoir was covered, and the suclpture was moved a few feet away from its original location.
