    Remarks:
IAS files contain excerpts from a published Town Report, Town of Swanton, 1938, and photocopied illustration of the monument, also from 1938. The Town of Swanton voted in 1934 to purchase a memorial to the boys of World War I. In 1937, the Board of Selectman agreed to make the purchase, timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the U.S. entry into the war. The memorial was purchased from J. W. Fiske Iron Works, New York City, at a cost of $1,000, the plate $50. The statue was placed in Memorial Park (then called Flat Iron Park). The base was built by local artist Mose Sawyer. The cost of the memorial was raised by the American Legion, who also raised funds for the base, which cost approximately $225.
