    Description: 
    Full-length female figure leans against a Doric column. On the top of the column is an urn bearing a lone star. The figure's proper left hand is held up to her cheek. Her wavy hair spills from under a long veil of mourning over her head. She wears classical dress. Stacked against the opposite side of the column are seven books. Additional books are open and propped up behind the stack of seven, half covering a partially opened scroll. An unrolled scroll rests on top of the books. The marble sculpture stands on a tiered rectangular limestone base.

From 1840 to 1857 he was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. From 1857 to 1861 he represented Texas in the Senate of the United States."
