    Description: 
    Standing female figure dressed in pioneer clothing. She is looking to her proper left with her proper left arm holding her proper left shoulder. Her proper right arm holds out her dress skirt as it blows in the wind. Her bonnet is tied to her neck and is blowing out in the back. There are three stalks of cattails on her proper left.

    The cost of the piece was $55,000. IAS files contain copies of articles from Huron Daily Plainsman (Huron, SD), Nov. 1, 1987, discussing the unveiling ceremony, attended by Elizabeth Dole and others, and the Huron Daily Plainsman (Huron, SD), July 1, 1986. Done by a local South Dakota sculptor, the piece honors South Dakota women and the contributions they have made to their communities and state.
