(Plaque at right rear of base lists seven names of the Committee of the Grand Army of the Republic, three names of the sons of veterans and two names of the committee of the town of Bristol) signed Founder's mark appears.
    Description: 
    Full-length figures of a Civil War soldier and sailor in full uniform stand atop a natural boulder. The soldier points a bayonet in front of him. The sailor holds a knife in his proper right hand which is behind his head. He holds a waving American flag in his extended proper left hand.

    Remarks: 
    Erected by the Babbitt Post no. 15, Department of Rhode Island, Grand Army of the Republic in memory of the soldiers and sailors from Bristol who served in the Civil War. This monument is part of a larger war memorial site which includes plaques to commemorate those who served in later wars in a courtyard setting. IAS files contain copies of historic postcards of the monument and the site from the Rhode Island Historical Society. Additional information on the sculpture is housed at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation Commission, 150 Benefit Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02903.
