(On plaque at right rear of base:) ERECTED BY BABBITT POST NO. 15/DEPARTMENT OF RHODE ISLAND/GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC/ASSISTED BY PATRIOTIC CITIZENS OF BRISTOL, R.I./IN MEMORY OF HER BRAVE MEN WHO SERVED IN THE ARMY AND NAVY/DURING THE CIVIL WAR 1861-1865. (Plaque at right rear of base lists seven names of the Committee of the Grand Army of the Republic, three names of the sons of veterans and two names of the committee of the town of Bristol) signed Founder's mark appears. Description:  Full-length figures of a Civil War soldier and sailor in full uniform stand atop a natural boulder. The soldier points a bayonet in front of him. The sailor holds a knife in his proper right hand which is behind his head. He holds a waving American flag in his extended proper left hand. This monument is part of a larger war memorial site which includes plaques to commemorate those who served in later wars in a courtyard setting.
