    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a "Hiker" male soldier, dressed in uniform with shirt, trousers, boots, hat and ammunition belt. He holds a rifle with both hands across the front of his body at thigh height. The sculpture is mounted atop a rough cut two-tiered base, with bronze replica of the membership badge of the U.S. Spanish-American War veterans inset on front.

    Nearby plaque reads: TO COMMEMORATE THE VALOR AND PATRIOTISM OF THE MEN WHO SERVED IN THE WAR WITH SPAIN, THE PHILIPINE (sic) INSURRECTION AND THE CHINA RELIEF EXPEDITION DEDICATED AUGUST 13, 1938.
    Efforts to erect the memorial were directed by John U. Shroyer, then the past department commander of the Spanish American War veterans. The monument cost $5,000 and was dedicated Aug. 13, 1938. IAS files contain copy of related newspaper article Shamokin Citizen Centennial Issue, 1864-1964, pg. 2.
