Remarks:
In 1919, a committee was formed to investigate the best way to memorialize
Lansdowne
veterans. Various ideas were submitted to the committee, but in May of 1920, local resident and architect Clarence Brazer submitted a drawing of the World War Memorial that was approved, and construction on his design began that same year. The memorial was originally erected at the
Lansdowne
High School. In 1929, when the new high school opened at its current location, the monument was relocated across the street from the school. In the early 1930s, the memorial was moved to the south end of the school. IAS files contain transcript of text of nearby interpretative signage. Missing eagle heads, wings, and bench corners were replaced in 1998 treatment.
