Description:
Full-length figure of a man and woman in 19th century pioneer dress stand on a square base. The man has a moustache, holster and hat which hangs down his back. The woman holds daisies in her proper left hand. She wears a long dress and her sunbonnet is off her head.

Commissioned by the
Newkirk
Centennial Committee to commemorate the opening of the Cherokee Outlet. The casting of the work was financed by the Glenn W. Peale Foundation. Remaining funds were provided by the Centennial Committee through the sale of medallions of the statue and from the profits of the
Newkirk
Centennial Celebration. The
sculpture
is deeded to Kay County. IAS files contain dedication program, related articles from the
Newkirk
Herald-Journal, Oct. 21, 1993 and Sept. 8, 1994, Ponca City News, Nov. 2, 1993 and the Daily Oklahoman, Nov. 4, 1993. IAS files also contain donor text on right side of the base.
