The names the wars appear in raised letters on respective sides of the base. Behind this "central helmet piece" are five granite steles, set in a semi-circle, inscribed with insignias of the five branches of service, a quote from Lincoln's Gettysburg address, the names of Kay County citizens who lost their lives during the wars, and a list of major contributors. Also part of the circular plaza are two benches which face the war memorial.
