Originally commissioned by Thomas McGrath, a Cincinnati saloon owner, for his home in Avondale. Because of residential dislike of the statue, McGrath gave the bust to

, in the 1890s, where it stood before the

Bernard
City Hall. The bust was relocated to Rose Avenue Park when the new City Hall opened in 1974.
