Her proper left arm is bent upwards at the elbow; her proper left hand is at shoulder height holding a drinking cup. She stands atop an ornamented base with water spouts within relief fish heads. Remarks:
Copy of Bertel Thorwaldsen's Hebe, the nymph of brooks and streams. The fountain was removed from its original location in 1928 when construction of the current First National Bank building began. Police Sergeant Byron Furginson saved the fountain and moved it to the back yard of his home on Haldimand Avenue, where it resided until rediscovered by the bank in 1975. The
Hamilton
Foundry restored the fountain under the direction of sculptor, Ted Gantz, which the bank funded. The fountain has been reinstalled in its original, pre-1928 location. IAS files contain a copy of the booklet "Welcome Home, HERBE...," (sic)
Hamilton
, OH: The First National Bank & Trust Company, 1976, which contains a historic photo of the fountain in its original setting. Although booklet titles
sculpture
"Herbe," IAS cataloger believes correct title to be Hebe.
