    Description: 
    Abstract sculpture consisting of five open quadrilateral shapes are linked together to suggest Olympic Rings. The two end rings and the center ring sit directly on the ground.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned by the City of Dayton City Beautiful Council's Alternative Spaces Residency Program and was purchased by the Dayton Art Institute. Steel was provided by Armco Steel Corporation. Fabrication assistance was provided by Hobart School of Welding Technology. The sculpture was named in honor of Jesse Owens, who died the week the piece was installed. IAS files contain copy of artist's sketch and copies of related articles from Dayton Daily News, April 1 & 3, 1980 and Jan. 6, 1981. IAS files contain excerpt from "Quintessence No. 3: the documentary catalogue of the City Beautiful program", Dayton: City of Dayton, pg. 14-26.
