Huge standing portrait of Abraham Lincoln looking straight out into the distance. There is little facial expression and he is portrayed without a beard. His hands are folded at his waist and he is dressed in a long suit jacket, a buttoned vest, and a bow tie.

Remarks:
Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Taft commissioned the
sculpture
for $100,000. The sculptor worked on the piece in his New York studio from 1911-1916 and then exhibited it on the grounds of the Union Theological Seminary before taking it to
Cincinnati
. Former President William Howard Taft unveiled the
sculpture
at the March 31, 1917 dedication. The
sculpture
was moved from its original location in Lytle Park to the to the Guilford School next door during construction of the I-71 tunnel from 1967-1971. During this time the
sculpture
was restored and in 1972 the piece was returned to its original location in Lytle Park. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. gave the address at the Nov. 17, 1972 rededication.
