WILLISTON
DEDICATE THIS/MONUMENT TO AGRICULTURE./THIS IS A TRIBUTE TO THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE/LAND WHO SETTLED THE PRAIRIE TO RAISE WHEAT AND OTHER/GRAINS. THEIR LABORS MADE WHEAT THE ECONOMIC STAFF OF/LIFE OF/THE WORLD. THIS MONUMENT IS TO REMIND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF/THE PROGRESS MADE BY THE PIONEERS OF THIS LAST CENTURY./
THESE PIONEERS ARE MANY. MOST PROMINENT ARE THE/WHEAT FARMERS - THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO BROKE THE/SOD, PLANTED THE WHEAT AND PRAYED THAT THE RAINS/WOULD COME, THE GRASSHOPPERS WOULD GO, THE PRAIRIE/FIRES WOULD DIE AND THE WIND WOULD CALM./ MANY OTHER PIONEERS CAME TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF THE FARMERS - THE BLACKSMITH, BANKER, GROCER, REAL/ESTATE AND INSURANCE AGENT, DOCTOR, LAWYER, MECHANIC, RAILROAD WORKER, STORE KEEPER, TEACHER, AND/THE PREACHER RIDING HIS CIRCUIT./
MANY OF THESE PIONEERS AND THEIR FAMILIES HAVE STAYED ON TO MAKE THIS MONDAK AREA AN ATTRACTIVE PLACE/TO LIVE FOR THE NEXT CENTURY - A PLACE TO WORK AND TO/RAISE A NEW GENERATION OF PIONEERS OF THE NEXT CENTURY./TODAY, AS WE TAKE THE FIRST STEPS INTO OUR SECOND CENTURY, WE SALUTE THE COURAGE AND COMMITMENT OF THESE FIRST-CENTURY PIONEERS./DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED BY

ARTIST AND CRAFTSMAN DAVID NJOS. (Sides of base:) (plaques with about 200 contributor's names) unsigned
Description:
Three rust-colored stalks of wheat in a triangular placement rise up from a square base. Each stalk is slightly bent "to indicate a mature 'head' ready for harvesting." The base's four corner pillars of brick rise above the fieldstone platform, and a low metal fence runs between the pillars. On three sides of the fieldstone platform granite plaques are installed.
