    Remarks:
In 1886 it was decided that a soldiers' monument should be erected in Lakeview Cemetery, and effort were made to solicit funds by donations. In 1889 the foundation for the monument was laid, but owning to limited funds, nothing more was done until 1893, when John D. Barrow, the designer of the monument, donated the funds needed to complete the project. In 1894, the statue was place atop the monument tower, but the dedication was postponed until the statue could be securely installed. The monument was supposed to include the names of soldiers of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, and the Civil War. However, only the names of Civil War soldiers are listed. IAS files contain an excerpt from the "Lake View Cemetery Burial Record 1796-1988" compiled by Karen Richards Anklin.
