    Owner:
Rome Historical Society, 200 Church Street, Rome, New York 13440
    Provenance:
Formerly in the collection of Kingsley, Willey J. P., Dr. & Mrs. 110 East Liberty Street Rome, New York 1876-1920.
    Exhibitions:
    Centennial International Exhibition, Philadelphia, 1876.
    Remarks:
The sculpture was purchased by Dr. and Mrs. Willey J. P. Kingsley at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876. The sculpture was installed on the Kingsley property until 1920 when the residence was donated to the Women's Community Center. In 1968-1969, the residence was torn down and the fountain was then stored in the basement of the YMCA. In 1980 the YMCA held a yard sale and the fountain was bought for one dollar by Bruce Treible, who later donated it the Rome Historical Society with the condition that the sculpture be restored. With money donated by Edward Evans, the fountain was partially restored by James McDermid who patched a hole in the front, repaired the little boy's hands, and removed several layers of paint. At the time of the SOS! survey, the sculpture was in storage awaiting further repairs.
