    Description: 
    Granite stele with a full-length profile of a walking soldier cut out of the center. The soldier wears a helmet and carries a rifle. The inside edge around the cut out of the soldier is lined with stainless steel. The stele rests on a three-tiered black granite base which rests on a pink granite foundation. The middle tier of the base is decorated with mosaic tile flags of the United States and Korea. Both sides of the bottom tier are decorated with mosaic tile flags for 12 other countries. The pink granite foundation is divided into 22 segments each inscribed with a country name and a tally of the number dead, wounded and missing during the Korean War.

    Remarks: 
    Sculpture cost: 450,000 dollars. Sculpture is maintained by the Korean Memorial Commission. According to the Art Commission of the City of New York, preliminary approval for the sculpture was given on Oct. 15, 1990 and final approval was given on Nov. 18, 1991. Milgo Art Systems cut and fitted the stainless steal lining for the cut-out figure. Peerless Granite carved the base. A. Ottavino Corporation did the installation. Sculpture is maintained by the Korean Memorial Commission.
